Makeover a Calendar

Project Type: Calendar
Purpose: Create a calendar for this literary book club that is consistent throughout the year but with each monthly calendar different.
Original: For 2004 each month had its own color but the book icon appeared on each month although the size and location varied month to month. The two rectangles on the right are mini-calendars for the previous and following months.
Makeover Parameters: The book club wants the 2005 calendar to be somewhat similiar to the 2004 calendar but they do want it to be readily recognized as a new calendar. The date blocks (not shown) on the calendar will be identical to previous years - white blocks personalized with some regular club events - on a background color consistent with the changing top portion of the calendar.
Create a calendar design for each month. Redesign the top portion of the calendar. It's not necessary to do all 12 months for this makeover but create one or two examples of how a typical month might appear. Use spot colors - no more than 2 (plus black) per calendar month. The top portion should be 12 inches wide by 5.25 inches tall.
The calendar design committee for the book club would like a fun, friendly look but nothing too radically different from previous calendars. They require the month, the year, the previous/next months, and the days of the week. Colors, fonts, and graphics, and the layout are up for reinterpretation.
